	National Institute of Labour Studies (NILS) is an organization functioning under the Ministry of Labour Relations and Manpower.

	The need for such an institute in Sri Lanka was felt almost half a century ago.
	From time to time attempts have been made in the past, but finally it was materialized under the concept "MAHINDA CHINTHANA"
	Now the institute is ready to commence its activities to facilitate strengthening of labour relations as to ensure industrial peace and harmony

	Industrial peace and harmony for socioeconomic development of Sri Lanka.

Establishment of the National Institute of Labour Studies is the fulfilment of a long felt need of Sri Lanka. Although concept was in discussion for almost half a century, finally it was materialized under the concept of "Mahinda Chintana".

The leadership, guidance and support of H.E. the President, Hon.Athauda Senevirathna, Minister of Labour Relations and Manpower and Mr.Mahinda Madihahewa, secretary are the main strengths of this institute.
